MongoDB shares soar 14% on a strong beat-and-raise Q2 report

MongoDB (NASDAQ:MDB) saw its shares soar more than 14% after the database software company reported better-than-expected second quarter fiscal 2025 results and raised its full-year guidance.

The company posted adjusted earnings per share of $0.70, significantly beating the analyst estimate of $0.49.

Revenue for the quarter came in at $478.1 million, surpassing the consensus estimate of $464.94 million and representing a 13% increase YoY.

MongoDB’s flagship cloud database offering, Atlas (NYSE:ATCO), continued to drive growth, with revenue up 27% YoY and accounting for 71% of total second quarter revenue.

The company also reported strong customer growth, surpassing 50,700 customers as of July 31, 2024.

“MongoDB delivered healthy second quarter results, highlighted by strong new workload acquisition and better-than-expected Atlas consumption trends,” said Dev Ittycheria, President and CEO of MongoDB.

Looking ahead, MongoDB raised its full-year fiscal 2025 guidance. The company now expects EPS of $2.33-$2.47, up from the previous analyst consensus of $2.26.

Full-year revenue is projected to be $1.92-1.93 billion, above the prior consensus of $1.9 billion.

For the third quarter, MongoDB forecasts EPS of $0.65-$0.68 and revenue of $493-497 million, both exceeding analyst expectations.

Analysts at RBC Capital Markets raised their MDB estimates after the report. Apart from guidance hike and robust earnings, the investment bank highlighted that “consumption
trends improved, operational headwinds subsided, and new business generation was strong.”

“All in, we thought Q2 was a good outcome, and FY25 is back on track,” they added.

Similarly, Stifel analysts said MongoDB’s results point to “improving execution in the challenged macro.” This, coupled with investments that should drive gross margin expansion and an expanding group of core and emerging growth drivers, “should enable Mongo to sustain 20%+ revenue growth and incremental levels of profitability/cash-flow in coming years.”
