India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.49%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.49%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 4.03% or 442.40 points to trade at 11,430.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) added 2.23% or 73.45 points to end at 3,368.50 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.65% or 119.15 points to 7,361.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO), which fell 5.74% or 59.45 points to trade at 976.35 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 3.04% or 9.00 points to end at 286.60 and Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) was down 1.86% or 55.40 points to 2,931.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 2.18% to 3,366.20, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 1.57% to settle at 7,353.75 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.88% to close at 1,853.00.

The worst performers were Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which was down 5.77% to 975.75 in late trade, Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which lost 1.79% to settle at 516.20 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.56% to 390.50 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1627 to 836 and 26 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2231 fell and 1574 advanced, while 95 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.03% or 442.40 to 11,430.15. Shares in Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) rose to all time highs; up 0.88% or 16.15 to 1,853.00.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.93% to 13.62.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.26% or 6.65 to $2,549.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.63% or 1.73 to hit $67.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 1.64 to trade at $70.83 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.01% to 83.98, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 92.74.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 101.41.
